Children's Book Week, May 10-16, 2010

Since 1919, Children's Book Week has been celebrated nationally in schools, libraries, bookstores, clubs, private homes -- any place where there are children and books. It all began with the idea that children's books can change lives. In 1913, Franklin K. Matthiews, the librarian of the Boy Scouts of America, began touring the country to promote higher standards in children's books.

Celebrate Mother's Day with a good book!

The library has many great books for children and young adults about real and fictional mothers, good and bad. The list below includes some favorite picture books and some titles for older readers. Set during the 60's civil rights movement, having a sick mother, facing motherhood at a young age, or having a mother who comes face-to-face with her own definition of beauty...these are a few of the subjects covered in these thought-provoking books.

Winner of Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award announced!
