Hello library friends. Although the Stowe Free Library is closed at this time due to the Vermont Governor’s directive to Stay Home and Stay Safe, the staff and I continue to work, albeit at home, to provide continued, though limited, services to the library community.

The staff and I are virtually available for questions/assistance regarding:

The Library continues to offer the following free online resources (which can be accessed at stowelibrary.org/Resources/Online Resources) :

  • Stowe Reporter Archive – currently archived issues up to 1989.

  • Listen Up! Vermont – access to E-Books and Audiobooks; library card is needed.

  • Learning Express – career and employment resources, including tutorials and practice testing; registration required.

  • Universal Class – 500 online certified courses led by real teachers; library card is needed.

  • Mango Languages – online course for 22 languages.

  • Vermont Online Library – a collection of electronic databases featuring journals by trusted publishers.

  • Other online resources including databases about books and literature, encyclopedias and dictionaries, movies, maps, federal and state government, newspapers, health and nutrition.

At this time, we are not accepting reservations for library items (holds) nor Meeting Room space. All new circulation of items including ILL materials are, of course, suspended. All borrowed items have been given a due date of June 1st. Library fines and out-of-town registration/renewal fees are temporarily suspended.

We are staying active with social media. You can stay in-the-know through our Library Facebook page and/or website, stowelibrary.org. We will notify you when a new opening date is declared. The Library’s Wi-Fi continues to be accessible outside of but in close proximity to the Library building.

We hope that the services that we can provide make this period of social distancing a little more palatable. Keep reading, continue learning, and work on staying happy and healthy!
