Minutes of Board of Trustees Meeting
December 4, 2020

Minutes: Approved as read.
Friends’ Report: Annual appeal was mailed in November.
Treasurer’s Report: Both the Operating Account and Development Account are steady. Investment account is doing better than it was. The Financial Committee will be meeting with Morgan Stanley in near future. They will ask the previous Treasurer, D. Johannesen if he will accompany them. The Spending Policy will be revisited at a later date.
Director’s Report: The library closed to the public in mid-November due to rising COVID-19 cases in the State and will remain closed until it is safe to allow the public back in. Curbside pick-up is very active, 174 packages in November. Librarians will do scanning and printing for patrons as needed. A new router has been placed on the porch to expand outdoor access. An ID is required to sign up for a Library Card. New requests can either scan a copy of their ID over or the staff will ask for it once the patron returns to the library. The library is working on a Grant for electronic material such as chrome books to lend out to patrons. The Department of Public Service issued a Grant for the new router on the front porch. Two librarians are producing a Pod Cast, 027 in the 802 which can be accessed through the website.
Annual Town Report: Due to the town January 8th, 2021.
Holiday Decorations: The decorations have been ordered and anyone who wants will meet on Monday, December 7th, 2020.
Condition of Gazebo: The Board sent a letter to the Town Manager about the condition of the gazebo outside the Helen Day Art Center. The letter was signed by Kelley Spear (President of Stowe Free Library Board of Trustees, Rachel Moore (Executive Director Helen Day Art Center), Barbara Baraw (President Historical Society) and Ronna Ziegel (President of the Friends of the Stowe Free Library). The town will send an electrician to make sure the outlets, etc are safe, they will paint, and repair anything that needs to be repaired. They are aware of the cement step and working on making the gazebo handicap accessible.
New Business: The Helen Day Art Center is changing their name, but the building must continue to be known as The Helen Day Memorial Library & Art Center. The Select Board can review a citizen’s request to add the library name to the sign. Cindy is applying for a Grant from Libraries Transform Communities for small and rural libraries to be used to achieve goals related to servicing seniors in our community. She would like to be able to lend out laptops to seniors and with remote software be able to train them how to use the equipment. There was discussion about a small bookmobile to service seniors. The Select Board is doing a survey on Stowe residents regarding local services. Cindy would like to add several questions about the library to the survey.
