Minutes of Board of Trustees Meeting
May 10th, 2019
Present: D.Witmer, D.Johannesen, C. Maison Kastner, C.Lusk, K.Kaufman, S.Gaines, K.Spear, C.Weber (Director), R. Ziegel
Absent: No members absent.
Call to Order: 8:05 a.m.
Minutes: Stand as read.
Friends’ Report: There were approximately 35 people in attendance at the Friends’ Annual Meeting. There will be a fund raiser at Over the Wall in Stowe on Wednesday May 15th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The book sale starts July 9th and will run until July 28th.
Treasurer’s Report: The dividends from our mutual funds at Morgan Stanley are paid into our bank account. The capital gains will be reinvested. (With a few exceptions.) As of the end of March the Checking Account had $30, 863 in it. The Development Account has $23,063 in it. The Endowment Fund has $1,083,899 in it. By the end of the fiscal year our funds will be squared away with Morgan Stanley.
Director’s Report: The library reopened May 1! They are still waiting on the phone line to be transferred from the Akeley Building. The youth section was repainted to match the front. The artwork still in safe at Akeley, but will return soon. The front lawn will be reseeded before the book sale. The Gazebo Concerts will continue this summer. Cindy continues to purchase new books for the adult collection. It will take her 2 years to get the shelves back to 2/3 full. Julie’s last day is May 31. Cindy has interviewed 4 people and will make her decision this week. Julie will come in to help with training. The summer children’s programs are set. The librarians created a new Early Chapter Book section distinguishing between easy readers and chapter books. The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Award is being renamed soon. The library will be closed, Monday the 27th for Memorial Day. There has been a lot of support from the community and the town. Cindy’s staff was amazing setting up Akeley and then returning to Helen Day location. The building is in better shape now than it has been for a long time. The Town Capital Budget will now include the library building. The new Town Engineer will take over maintenance of building.
Library Security Discussion: Cindy spoke to the police about security cameras, etc. The Police Department is looking at a new system and will let her know about it. She asked to have a system that coordinates with the police system. There is some pushback about putting cameras up outside the building. The Board will revisit this at the next meeting.
Volunteer Reception: The Volunteer Reception will be on June 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Over the Wall.
Julie Pickett Retirement: The library will have an open house to celebrate Julie on May 31st starting at 3:00 pm. The Friends’ will throw the party in the library and the Trustees will give her a gift. A motion was made to give Charlotte $75 for a gift. The motion was approved.
