Friends of Stowe Free Library

Board Meeting March 2, 2017

Present:  Ronna Ziegel, Dee Reever, Barbara Bauman, Lisa Grady, Margot Hall, Sally Nolan, Louise Thompson, Peg Lackey, Donna Penndorf, Kelley Spear

The meeting was called to order at 3:33 pm by Ronna Ziegel, President.

Minutes of the meeting of January 5, 2017 were approved as written.

Ronna gave the Treasurer’s report.  The Friends have $58871 in checking.  There was a discussion about spending more money, so as not to retain such a large amount of funds. This will be discussed, along with any suggestions that Cindy has for spending, at our budget meeting on June 1.  Dee will look into getting a higher interest rate at Union Bank for our money market account.

Lisa noted these upcoming speakers:

March 16, 7pm -- Women of the Long Trail, Reidun Nuquist

                April 6, 7pm -- 1816, The Year Without a Summer, Roger Hill

May 4, 4pm, Annual Meeting -- “A Man Apart”, Peter Forbes

Margot and Sally gave the following schedule for this year’s book sale:

July 5 -- put out books

July 6 -- book sale opens

                July 22 and 23 -- Final weekend

July 24 -- Take down the sale

Volunteers are needed for getting water and maintaining the cooler.  Captains of the day, people to put up posters and especially people to open and close the sale are needed. Margot gave a demonstration of how to cover and uncover the books.

Barbara noted that our current membership is at 147 and we have had 57 donations.

Ronna displayed a canvas bag that all agreed was a really good choice.  We are splitting the cost with the Blue Donkey.  The board agreed to order at least 300 bags and perhaps more if the Blue Donkey wants more to sell.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:41 pm.

Respectfully submitted,

Dee Reever
