Minutes of Board Meeting May 4, 2017
In attendance: Chair Ronna Ziegel, Vice Chair Lisa Grady, Caren Goodhue, Dee Reever, Librarian Cindy Weber, Treasurer Carol Stevens, Louise Thompson, Donna Penndorf, Barbara Fox, Connie Carrino, Margot Hall, Sally Nolan, Bonnie Knight, Peg Lackey and Nancy Stead.
Ronna opened a short board meeting at 4:05 before the Annual Meeting. A motion to approve the minutes of March 2, 2017 was approved unanimously and Carol Stevens gave a brief report on the budget. At this point in the Fiscal Year 7/1/2016-6/30/2017 we have $30,000 in the bank, as opposed to $39,000 last year. With great credit to our book sale team (Bonnie Knight, Margot Hall, Sally Nolan and Peg Lackey), the sale last year netted over $20,000. Ronna gave the audience an overview of the many important ways the FSFL supports the Library financially, including a contribution to the Town for its annual budget, media purchases, the summer concert series, the children’ s summer reading program and funding unbudgeted but needed purchases/events.
Connie Carrino reported there are now 140 members (20 are new) and 62 contributors as a result of this year’s membership drive.
The new book bags, made in collaboration with the Blue Donkey, are now available and sell for $12.
Margot Hall outlined the dates and needs of this year’s book sale, with set-up July 5 and opening July 6. Once again, its success depends on the support and vitality of its volunteers.
The next meeting, which is the budget meeting, is Thursday, June 1 at 3:30 p.m. The meeting adjourned at 4:15 for a fascinating talk by Peter Forbes and Helen Whybrow of the Knoll Farm in Waitsfield, VT about their years with Bill Copperthewaite and their book, A Man Apart: Bill Copperthewaite’s Radical Experiment in Living.
Nancy Stead, Secretary
