DCF Book Club
The Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Award program and the Stowe Free Library Book Club
Since 1956 Vermont middle-grade children have voted for their favorite book in a program designed to help them become enthusiastic readers and to honor Vermont author Dorothy Canfield Fisher.
Schools and libraries in Vermont have Dorothy Canfield Fisher Book Clubs to encourage children to read the books on the awards list. The list is comprised of 30 titles, ranging in age appropriateness and reading levels, for 4th grade to 8th grade. If you’d like to see what other Vermont kids have to say about the books or if you’d like to add your own comments, check out the Dorohty Canfield Fisher blog.
Here at the Stowe Free Library, our Book Club is for children in grades 4-8. Any child in those grades who loves to read and talk about books is welcome to attend. We meet monthly (when possible), usually on a Tuesday evening from 5:30-6:30 to talk about a book, play a trivia game based on the book, and/or do other activities.
The library provides multiple copies of the books for kids to borrow ahead of time. Our next meeting is on Tuesday, July 31 at 4:30. The book is Restart by Gordon Korman.
